Virtue is
the conformity of one’s life and conduct to moral and ethical principles,
uprightness, and rectitude.
Synonyms:
integrity, moral excellence, charity, prudence etc.
“Beauty will fade, knowledge will pass away,
but the last quality in man is virtue” Johnson Osunsanya.
It is sand that a single lie of misdeed can taint
ones testimony, and all you need to lose respect and the integrity you’ve built
is to create a situation of lack of trust. When you have been
found guilty of a particular offence, it is always hard to have oneself respect
back. It will be right to say that you have lost something, your personal
opinion of yourself would have suffered deterioration,
and it makes it hard to face one’s life activities or taste with the same
enthusiasm again, because you always feel there is someone there who is
watching you and who know about your past and would judge you.
Nothing mars a life quickly than regret. The
loss of self respect and character is irreplaceable, whereas, on the other
hand, the consciousness of the gentleness of purity of heart multiplies one’s power, increases one’s
confidence and give a general lift to ones personality in every area of
life’s endeavours.
A pure mind in a chaste body is necessary for
wisdom to live a morally sound life, keep
good and pure company. Never take for companion or friends, those who have
no high aim in life of those who sneer at a virtue. Choose rather those who are
clean, wholesome and have high
moral standard and who possesses a great
charity, who aspire to be somebody
and want to do something worthwhile with their lives. They are hard to find,
but they are always around us. It is said that Bad Company Corrupts Good Manners.
In every realm of life, physical, mental, moral of
intellectual, there is no more practical, necessary, health preserving, success
assuring command then keep yourself pure.
How you can improve the virtuousness in you
·
Identify the aspect of your behavior that you
need to change.
·
Try and know what people say behind you. You
are what people say behind you not what they say before you.
·
Determine your reasons for not being virtuous
enough and know the weapon you use to excuse yourself e.g. lie, violence etc
and avoid it.
·
Build more relationships with people at home,
workplace, neighborhood etc.
·
Listen to and respect to the opinions and
decisions of others.
·
Develop accountability. Learn to admit mistakes
and apologize for it.
·
Grow to be more independent.
·
Surround yourself with morally upright people.
·
Be compassionate.
·
Criticize and reprimand a bad act not the actor.
·
Keep yourself simple & honest.
·
Be discipline in thought and action.
·
Always think twice before you talk. “The
heart of a fool is in his mouth but the mouth of a wise man is in his heart” Benjamin
Franklin.
